My favorite sessions have become family photo sessions for many reasons. I love the interaction, the fun, the creativity and the authenticity that take place when all the stars align! But to get the stars to align some things have to take place. You’ve gotta show up with the right attitude and preparations, just like I do as your photographer. I hope you will find these tips helpful and easily attainable. Don’t forget to read “Part One” of my 10 Tips for a Successful Family Photo Session if you haven’t already.
6. Don’t dress like someone you are not
Regardless of whether you saw it in a magazine or on some staged “What to Wear” ad. The best place to start is in your own closet. Then only buy new clothes to fill in the gaps. Remember, this session is to remember who you were…. not trying to be someone you are NOT!

7. Let go!
Really, this is more for mom and dad. Once the kids can see you are acting naturally yourself they will follow suit.

8. Schedule the session during your child’s happy time.
As much as I desire the light during the “golden hour”, it doesn’t work well for most babies and toddlers. We’ll find good light.

9. Have some ideas ahead of time.
If you come prepared with things that you would like to have captured then be sure to tell me. It’s always good to know what makes your family’s connection special.

10. Pick a location that makes your family happy.
For example, if your family doesn’t enjoy the great outdoors, then how about try an urban location or in your home.
